The 2012 Montupoli Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

I’ve decided to spice things up here at the Wine Club Directory and start reviewing the many bottles of wine I receive AFTER they’ve been consumed. It’s one thing to talk about which wine clubs are good and which ones should be avoided, but actually reviewing the wines received is just as important, right?

So, the first wine I’m going to review in this new format (which I’m fondly calling “What I Drank Last Night”) is the 2012 Montupoli Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. I received this bottle of Italian wine in my February, 2014 shipment from the Wine of the Month Club thanks to my Limited Series membership, which I highly recommend to anyone looking to try a good International Wine Club.

The 2012 Montupoli Montepulciano d’Abruzzo comes from Abruzzo, Italy and has a dark purple color, a nose of earth, licorice and tart cherries, a palate of leather and earth mixed with lots of fresh berries and a finish that is concentrated, tannic with lush blackberry fruit. This 94 point wine can be consumed anytime from now until 2016. I recommend now :-)

On a side note, I can’t believe we received 6″ of snow today here in North Carolina! My kids were ecstatic.
